Richard MantReflections on the Sinfulness of Cruelty to Animals…A Sermon…Preaached in SouthHampton
Commentary-Reviews This is a very judicious and impressive discourse, and the preacher has our thanks for the very able manner in which, at the conclusion of it, he has proved the evil tendencies of the pleasures of the sportsman, who seeks gratification and amusement from the terror, the pains, and the death of a defenceless animal. He justly suspects, we fear, that this part of his discourse will not be generally approved; and it is much to be lamented that the conduct of so many of his clerical brethren will counteract rather that promote his humane and benevolent labours. — Annual Review (1807) | ||||||||
