eBook Notes

Each electronic book or "ebook" retains the original text, grammar, spelling, punctuation and pagination of the source document. With older literature, word usage and spelling often differ from current standards, between editions of a book, and often within the text itself. As well, it was not uncommon for punctuation, especially exclamation points ! to be found within sentences. Unclosed quotations marks were also common as well as words hyphenated between pages. Few modifications have been made to the text, and only when necessary to ensure readability or due to the limitations of html. The actual line width has not been maintained, and therefore hyphenated words have been combined but not noted. Words hyphenated between pages have been combined for readability and searching purposes. Quotation marks beginning every line of a multi-line quote have not been retained unless identifying lines of poetry. Chapter and page titles are bold and centered to provide assistance for those using screen readers and other adaptive technology. Any other changes are noted separately within the transcriber's notes of the individual eBook. The eBooks have been proofread several times, unfortunately, errors still occur.
